What is the width of a stock 7.5" 84 buick regal wms to wms? I'm looking into swapping out the rear for something beefier. Most likely a ford 8.8 rear from an 95+ explorer, or a 9" from an early bronco since the widths seem real close to a g body's.

How are you going to address the upper control arms with either of those leaf-sprung axle assemblies?

Welding ears to a cast center...by a novice?

And last time I looked, early Bronco anything was pretty spendy.

Can it be done? Sure. Cost effective, probably not.

There's a reason outfits like Quick Performance and Moser sell so many housings, you know they're right, and the price isn't that terrible for a known workable setup.

I'm planning on using currie brackets and the center on an 8.8 is cast steel, not iron. I was also at one point a certified welder so i'm no novice when it comes to welding. My best friends brother has a bunch of connections with the local 4x4 guys (c.o.r.e and others) so he stumbles upon truck parts real easy when they upgrade to 1 tons. the 8.8 would probably be the cheapest route since its $90 for a complete rear with 3.73s, 31 spline shafts, discs, and a trackloc at my local pull a part.

still need a WMS TO WMS measurement on the stock rear end, someone point me in the right direction.
