The newly fired engine in my wagon has a strange noise, sort of like a loud PS pump. It is there even with the serp belt off. I thought is could be the timing chain hitting the cast aluminum cover, but there is no hint of the noise listening to the cover. I plan on pulling the balancer off to make sure that is not it. I just remembered that I used a Jegs multi-position timing set that uses a thrust bearing.....anyone had any noise from one of those torrington bearings on a timing gear???

I would really rather not pull this thing out or even apart

Thanks

Brian

May not be much help but I'd unbolt you're torque convertor, just to rule out anything with the transmission.

Yeah definitely rule out anything transmission related first before you rip that engine apart again. And i don't know if this will help that much but when i did my valve lash i used a piece of tubing to pin point which valves clatter, you might be able to do that to determine where the noise is coming from on your engine.
