heres the story. just traded for this car, i noticed the dipstick didnt sit all the way down in the tube when i first looked at it. i tried to push it down to get it to seal but it wouldnt. it was bottoming out on the pan bottom. well i didnt talk to the guy for awhile and then i decided i wanted the car. it still had the dipstick sticking out of the tube about an inch when he showed up. i drove the car. it shifted well and did everything it should. no puddles in the drive way and no problem (the kid drove it 2 hours one way and i drove it about 2 or 3 miles). well i got the car and i decided i was going to take it to the parts store about a mile or two through town, alot of stop and go driving. i get there and get my parts and notice transmission fluid all over under the car. i opened the hood and its all over around the dipstick tube, on the hvac box and firewall and its wet down the side of the transmission snd on to the headers but there wasnt any fluid on the hood. so i baught a new th350 dipstick and put it in. what i noticed (besides the fact that the new one required the removal of the factory seal), i noticed that the new one was about 2 inches shorter and so was the dipstick. after i installed the dipstick i started the car and warmed the transmission up and checked the fluid. it was barely touching at the bottom so i ended up putting in about 2 or 3 quarts of fluid after running through the gears and all that fun stuff in the drive way. Now for the question, now hat you know the story what do you guys think. i realize it shouldnt be pumping transmission fluid out the top of the tube but with the dipstick not sealing up and the tube that was in it being to long would that cause my issue? or do i need to start taking lines apart and checking for blockages in the lines and cooler?i have let the car idle for about 15 to 30 minutes but i didnt notice any leaking since there was still fluid dripping off the car. any help would be appreciated
