I've been wondering what the consensus is here,

Responsible street racing to my definition is a road in the middle of no where with no spectators lining the side of the road. so if there is a crash only the people behind the wheel get hurt.

i'm looking for all responses to be solid thought out opinions not just
"no its illegal"/"people die from it"(they also die at the track) or "yeah its fun cops suck"(that can be said about many other things)

I voted yes never participated.
Under the conditions stated I would not have a problem with this.

The older I get, the less reasonable this sounds. With a huge step function when I had kids. The struggle is that my ego still has a distant connection to when I was 23 and built my 400 the first time....

There is no such thing as responsible street racing, it is always irresponsible and makes all us gear heads look bad. The only responsible racing is on a track.

Even on a empty public road, you never know when some other car may drive by. Just can't count on a public road being completely empty. If one of the racers does crash, it would damage the road and taxpayers would have to pay to fix it which isn't fair. Plus a crash may block the road for hours and inhibit travel for other drivers who need to use it, again not fair to them.

I went with No, Have participated. Being younger I would but like ssn696 said the older I get the more irresponsible it sounds. Even in the situation you stated all it would take is a deer to run out, or any animal, and it could cause a wreck depending on speed. Even if the driver is the only one to get hurt, that's still one person getting hurt that doesn't have to happen. Street Racing seems in my opinion to be the same as track racing if you take away all the safety requirements. No safety team standing by, only one person a car, Certain speed cars require helmets, roll cage required etc.

I went with no, but have participated. Im only 23 so my high school days aren't too ancient to remember what it was like getting my first car---my monte. I used to race a lot of people but a close call with a blown brake line changed my outlook on it and I really haven't done it since. I'll line up next to a buddy up town and drag it stop light to stop light but no real speed is involved.

The fact that Summit Motorsports Park is only 15 minutes from me makes it even less worth it. For $7 I can take my car to test and tune, race it all day long, and have proof of what I ran so I can talk sh*t to my mustang buddies lol.

My answer would be NO!! I'm 66 and sorry to say I did tooo much street racing back in the day. Even got popped with a drag racing ticket. Back then a 13 sec car was fast - now day's the sky is the limit. There was one event here, the police were actually watching, the car lost control and killed an innocent bystander. There is no such thing as responsible street racing

a little quick light to light i say is okay as long as there is no cars around or people walking across the street me being a driver for a 10 second 1/4 car things get hairy even on the track i cant imagine what it could do on the street so my answer is no

reasons why i do participate but only in the middle of no where is because the nearest track is an hr away all my stuff is up to the same standards as the track, if you race period at a track or not you are putting your life at risk and no spectators should be on the side of the road when you race thats just stupid and asking for death to come in without him even knocking
