Im having intake manifold / head gasket problems with my car. Dont know if i should bother with the 5.0l, Or buy this 80's 4bolt 350 i found from a truck with 25kmiles on it $200 and swap it in. Ive noticed the stickey's, And they both deal with 3.8 to 350 swap's.

What all do i need, for a 5.0l, to 350 swap? Is my 5.0l Chevy's "305"? thats what ive been told. Will my transmission / x member bolt up? Drive shaft need shortened? Ill be running elec fan's. What are my option's as far as exhaust manifold's, y pipe's, or header's? Im guessing my stock fuel pump and lines will work?

Will my accy's from my 5.0 bolt up to a 350?

They also used 5.0l designation for the Olds 307. If it has the oil fill tube up front its an Olds 307 if not they your good to go. Someone else can help you with the rest.

If it is in fact a Chevy 305 and not an Olds motor pretty much everything will bolt right up. Do you live somewhere your car get emission tested yet? If not I'd defiantly go with the 350. Simply more you can get out of it. What transmission do you have? As long as you don't have OD you won't need to do nothing, if you do you'll need a Torque Convertor Lock Up Kit, but both G.P.'s I've had had 200 metric's in them with Chvey 305's. Your gonna need a non computer controlled distributor (I just used a standard one wire HEI), and a non computer controlled carb. Otherwise everything else should be exactly the same.

I believe it is a chevy 305, with a 200 backing it up. will the 200 hold the power of a 350?

i got a holley carb. any cutting / grinding required?

I've know quite a few people to use to 200m with 350's. Unless you build a pretty wild small block you shouldn't have too many problems, just remember this isn't the toughest transmission made nor a race transmission in stock trim, be nice to it and you should be alright. As far as a Holley carb, what are you talking about cutting/grinding??? If you mean hood clearance no, not as long as you don't go with a huge highrise intake you'll be alright.

Also you will need the 350 exhaust manifolds or headers the 305's go over the plugs kinda like a M where as a 350's are under the plugs like a W the 305's get in the way of the 350's dip stick where you cant put it in

Alright, Midwest, I didnt mean cutting / grinding as far as the carb goes. i mean tho whole swap period. Im also in a no emissions state.

0 cutting and grinding in that case. Everything including the motor mounts are pretty much the same. I'd recommend leaving all the emission stuff off then, more power. But as SLICK79WGN said you'll need 350 manifolds or headers as well, thus possibly needing to make some changes to or replacing the exhaust (providing you decide to run headers).

What do you think about putting a set of Vortec heads on the 305, And maybe a Victor jr intake + holley 600? Waiste of gas / time / money?

Hopfully i can get away with putting Intake manifold gaskets on my 305, and driving it for a while. But if it needs head gaskets, And one of the heads are warped, Im going with Vortec's, or a 350.

Actually I'm not completely sure about Vortec's. Someone here should be able to help you alittle more on that.
