i'm not big on engine knowledge, but any way i have a 76 rocket in my 84 olds calais, can the olds be switched over to fuel injected?

Check out some of the Fuel Injection kits companies like Holley, Edlebrock and others offer. Most offer big and small block chevy kits, but also have universal kits that will take a little work to adapt but you should be able to make it work on your car. Summit Racing and JEGs both carry kits, but plan to spend $2000 - $3000.

No slam here just honest help. If you are not "big on engine knowledge" and what you have is a "76 Rocket" you are most likely not ready for a major and expensive project such as converting your Olds motor to run via fuel injection. On top of that why do want to switch to FI what do you expect to gain?

i do not believe he said he was doing it himself, but you did have a point on the benefits, it is extremely pricey and no really up side.( not like aluminum heads, intake ect.) but if you really want it, go for it, i think edelbrock makes the best bang for you buck kit. remember that does not include fule line and pump.

uh i im not doin it myself at all, the rocket hit me for $3500 money not a issue when it comes to whats under the hood, i just want it to be fuel injected thats all, but if im not gonna get much from the switch i will keep it as is........okay issue solved

there have been many FI vs carb comparisons and the end result is that when properly set up there's no power difference. HOWEVER, that's total numbers. a properly designed and tuned fuel injection system gives you better throttle response, better reliability, and better consistency. FI adjusts for altitude and temperature changes automatically--no more retunes. and the fact that you can just start it and drive, no more waiting for it to warm up enough, no more chokes. all in all FI is better, if you get the right setup.

efi is a great idea! i read that the olds 350 rocket was a chevy engine taged as with a olds rocket, that topic is on the forum somewhere...... if it is in fact a chevy motor then efi should be a walk in the park!

see this is all i wanted cause im movin back east and winters back east are no joke and im tired of warming up my car, this the input i needed THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

Well, a 350 Rocket would be an Olds 350 if it is labeled "Rocket", NOT a Chevy! Remember that Chevy, Pontiac, Buick and Olds all built 350 ci engines. As for a cheap EFI alternative, get or make an adapter plate for the intake manifold you have to use the 2 bbl TBI off a late 80's/early 90's SBC, and get that throttle body and it's injectors. Next, you will also need the MAP sensor and an O2 sensor to run in closed loop. You will also need a baffled tank and pump from a 4.3 TBI Monte Carlo. For an ECU, get an inexpensive Megasquirt EMS to run the fuel system. (You can run the ignition using a non computer HEI for an Olds.) Solder the kit together and test it. Now, just program the ECU ( you can probably find a map that will get things running on the MS forums) and you have EFI. Cheap and simple! If you do all of your own work, it could be done for under $500.

but with a TBI setup you tend to lose power in the mid-range. i'm sure somebody offer a proper multi-port intake for an olds engine. for the remainder you could get away with a junkyard v8 wiring harness, sensors, and ecm. you would also need a good programmer.
