synthetic oil safe to use with flat tapped or should say safe to use with 82 motor

First thing, does your engine have any leaks?

Second thing, you are supposed to have oil that contains zddp or it can ruin the camshaft. You can buy additives to take care of that.

What oil do you use now?

well before the owner put in Valvoline max life and i put in Castro sluge protection

If you go with synthetic, I would try the high mileage synthetic from Mobil 1. Since it doesnt seem like anyone has used oil with zddp with your car and it is doing fine, you should be fine switching to a synthetic without any additive.

i wouldn't bother. at advance, the only oil that i still trust to have the right amount of zinc is the valvoline vr1, which is a conventional. i don't even think rotella has the right amount of zinc and phosphorous anymore . other than that, i wouldn't bother going with a synthetic, unless it's a fresh rebuild, new bearings, gaskets, and such.
