Im working on a 83 Grand Prix that was taken apart some 6 years ago. I have the Fisher Body Service Manual but its not always full of answers.
The T tops are retained in the center by the Center Upper finishing molding (T bar). The glass slides under the t bar in the middle, i under stand all that but what holds that top piece in? It just slides over the t bar and sits there. Is that it? Is it glued in place? Might be a dumb question but i don't want them flying off at speed or anything. I can post a picture of the diagram if needed.

Thanks for any help you can give. Now i get to start cutting the t top seal because its 2 inches to long on one side. Bought it 6 years ago so no returns on this one.

Here is the diagram from the Fisher Body Service Manual. Its very much a T but it is aftermarket stainless from 6 years ago. There is one hole in the bar from powder coating i believe. I can't see any way it would be fastened unless i need to start drilling holes.

how was the original attached?...

I have no idea. This car was taken apart some 6 years ago, 3 years before i started working here. I started with a pile of powder coated trim and no instructions, that's why I ordered the fisher body manual.

Here is the other exploded view. I have the entire assembly secured with screws its just "18. Longitudinal Roof Bow Reveal Molding" that isnt attached to "5. Lift-off Panel Opening Center Upper Finishing molding".

I was just informed that the pieces in question are in fact original. Maybe it was glued from the factory and it came apart with the pieces were hot tanked. I am probably going to drill some holes in it and use some #6 screws to nut and bolt it together since my boss isn't fond of glue.

I'm not sure if this will help you, but look at the pictures and try to see if it matches your setup. My car is an 83 model and I'm the original owner. All the parts are original. There are screws holding the "#7 Windshield Upper Frame Rear Finishing Molding" as well as the "#5 Lift-Off Panel Opening Center Upper Finishing Molding" (see pictures). These pictures are in my gallery (better resolution).

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the pictures! From what i can tell #18 must have just been glued from the factory. I had no idea there was so much sealing material under all that.

Thanks to the both of you for all your help. I'll have to start a thread on this car so you can see all the fun/horrible things that are in store for me. I just had to cut and sew a weather seal back together. It's experimental and I don't think it will seal well but it's in the name of science(being cheap).
