Has anyone taken apart the speedometer on a Gbody, specifically a later Monte Carlo SS?

My 86 SS speedo seems noisy, the stick is jumping a bit, and it may be binding internally due to rust as the trip meter isn’t working.

How did you do it? I what did you do to the speedometer internals?

Lube the cable first. Pull the cable off of the speedometer and pull the cable from the casing. Wipe it off, may need brake clean, and lightly oil the cable as you put it back in the casing. You may have a two or three piece cable so you may need to lube all of them, but if you can hear it in the car, it's probably just the upper.

Thats the very first thing I did when I replaced the speedo cable was lube it. I removed it from the casing and sprayed it with lithium grease and replaced it.
