God Bless Texas!

They are already putting the 85 signs up out west, but here in Austin they just bumped us up to 80.

I'll take it!!

85, that means i could do 90 and probably wouldnt get stopped. Thats gonna interesting and maybe a little fun

NICE!! Highway i76 has a 75mph limit northeast of highway 85 for us. not bad but would even be better if it was 85.... 😀

Re: Texas House approves nation's fastest speed limit at 85

I wish Ohio would get their sh*t together and increase these lame *ss 60 mph speed limits to something more realistic. Oh wait, some parts of the highways are a whopping 65!

They recently increased the turnpike speed limit to 70, but not the normal freeways. They're probably concerned with the lost revenue that would occure from not being able to hand out as many speeding tickets....

gotta love it! not to mention we have a 64 mile long oval track (i285) LOL still cant figure out why the posted limit is 55mph!

Re: Texas House approves nation's fastest speed limit at 85

I was looking online, and the new section of highway between Mustang Ridge (just south of Austin) to Seguin (sit's on I-10, between San Antonio and Houston) is going to be 85mph. That's a 60-mile stretch....should be fun!

Ouch. Where did you get busted and how fast were you going? Was it state or a local cop?

No kidding! Hell, every time I get on 75, 285, or 20, there's always that person the left lane doing 90 and not one cop around...LOL

Re: Texas House approves nation's fastest speed limit at 85

GA is pretty well known to being strict with out of state speeders. I knew someone who was jailed overnight in GA for speeding. They didn't let him go until the check for his ticket cleared, this was back sometime in the 70s so hopefully they don't do that anymore.

Personally I think an 85 limit is a really bad idea. I don't know about TX roads, but most northeastern roads are in way too poor of a condition and too crowded to ever go that fast except for short passing bursts. That is besides the majority of drivers not being skilled enough and too distracted by cell phones and other devices to drive that fast.
