Well last night it started out making a clunking sound which i thought was the spiders in the rear, wasnt them. Upon trying to drive it home from a trans shop yesterday shifting from 2nd to 3rd it clunked hard shuddered and then nothing from drive and L2 but it would move in L2. Reverse works as well, when i put it into drive it seems like it wants to engage but it wont move and i can hear something spinning. any idea what it could be? i know dont lecture on the trans, its probably the last th200 left

Sounds like maybe a planetary came apart. Whatever it is, it's not worth the cost of repair. TH350s are cheap and a direct replacement.

how hard would it be to fix them? i just dont have the money right now for a trans and i dont have the means to replace it either

hey there,,, repairing the planetary inside the trans is not all that hard,, IF YOU HAVE THE RIGHT TOOLS, you will need a full rebuild kit as well as the HARD parts that are broken,, throw in a few special tools required and,,,,,, you see where this is going,,,$$$$ look on c list in your area,, maybe somebody is upgrading to a overdrive and you could pick up a th 350 for cheap,,,, good luck,,,,

How close are you to Portland? I pulled the TH200 out of my Cutlass a couple months ago for an overdrive swap. Nothing wrong with it. $50 and it's yours. Sorry, I'm not interested in the hassle/cost of shipping.
If' you are no where near me, I'm sure there are plenty of other options close to you. Like I said earlier, A TH350 is cheap and easy to swap. It's a true bolt-in and can probably be found for $100-$200. You can't fix your broken TH200 for that.

thanks for the replies and the offer on the trans, but i live in Shamokin,Pa so thats not an option. I dropped the pan today, found metal shavings plastic pieces. Cleaned it up and put new fluid in, if i put it in drive and give, it gas get it up to 2,000rpm and itll try to move forward....any possibility its the converter?

Not likely. It's internal and cheaper to replace than repair. No matter what, it's got to come out. You won't be fixing this one through the pan. Sorry.

As DRIVEN said, it'll have to come out to repair it, so you're better off replacing with a TH350 (no plastic thrust washers, unlike the TH200).

Nobody around here will even entertain rebuilding a 200, 350s are more readily available and as mentioned previously, are a direct swap.

I had a TH200 that died the exact same way, and it was a previous reman...they just don't age wll...although I did put 40000 miles on it before it died.
