th350 linkage

hi there i recently had an issue where every gear was 1st i diagnosed the problem as being the s clip falling off in the trans pan after reattaching and adding fluid etc i now cannot find any gear when shifting it seems to go into gear now and then as if its caught between them i am thinking that perhaps my linkage is loose or requires adjustment. would anyone be able to tell me the correct procedure to adjust my linkage so it will line up
