The Club - any deterrent value?

I'm not asking if the Club is a good theft prevention device, I know it's pretty easily bypassed by a pro.
However...

Last night my window got smashed, locks busted, ignition cylinder jimmied, and random wires pulled out. I say random wires because I still haven't checked my wiring diagram to see what they are. The ****tards who did this didn't know how to hotwire a car - they pulled some wires but they could start it and the key starts it just fine.

A kill switch is a better way to keep my car from actually being stolen, but I can't afford to replace another window. Hell, I can't afford to replace this window. I'm a student and not on anyone else's dime - or on loans.

I was wondering what your thoughts were on using the Club to deter the casual thief (these guys were clearly no pros) from smashing my car up in the first place because they figure they won't get anywhere.

I think any visual deterrent is a good one. I use the club along with a simjack column lock, so a would be thief, even a pro can see that its going to take some work.

A kill switch is great, but by itself it still invites someone to attempt to hotwire the car which can result in what happened there.

Sorry to hear about the damage - that truly sucks! Maybe someone can donate a window or some parts if they have them to spare?

you would have to be a real noob not too know how to steal one of these cars.. or ANY GM with a round column... should be what..pre 1995?

I always liked the flashing LED light in the dash so the car "appears" alarmed.

My buddy swears by his removable steering wheel as the best visual cue not to bother with his car.

visual deterrents work .
If they really want it and they are pros they will take it no matter what you do, but the average car thief/ joy rider will move on to the next car if he sees something that will make it harder for him.

If you were local to me, I'd donate a window as I have a ton of them. However, shipping glass is not something I want to try!

As for the club, it takes maybe 10 seconds to bypass it, so I would not use it. I am surprised that someone tried to steal a Regal though as I tend not to think of our cars as having much value. Parts are pretty cheap used, so why risk getting caught stealing one?

Seriously. My parents' 1992 Blazer got stolen a decade back, about 6-7 years ago my 1981 Regal got stolen (found a few blocks away. Joyriders). Both times had the characteristic column break/hotwire.

As I said, I need to pull out my wiring diagram to figure out just what they ripped out. There's a pink/purple and a light blue wire dangling down there...

Edit, update: My signals/emergency flashers. The idiots tried to hotwire my car but ended up cutting the turn signal wires.

Clubs are good only if the thief doesn't have a hack-saw and an extra 20 seconds to cut through the steering wheel.

it may deter a 16 year old kid from joyriding, but not someone who knows what they are doing.
