Well finally after 2 years I have FINALLY gotten myself a new project car. This is also a big change because my last two cars were a 240SX and a Corolla GTS. I have not had an American V8 car since I was a teenager. Got the car for free complete with keys and the title (not making me work for this much at all is he?).

Anyway the car is a 1980 Olds Cutlass Supreme originally with a diesel engine. It now has a Pontiac 400 that has tossed a rod (ah well just gotta find a new engine). It was honestly in better shape than I figured, it had a small dent in driver fender and a hole in the passenger side door. Other then that there is no rust or body damage at all (frame is good also). It is missing the front and rear bumpers but I already have someone looking for some for me.

I was also surprised at how relatively clean the interior was for a car that is 29 years old. As we moved it the plastic around the steering wheel disintegrated, no big deal I'm going change it out anyway. Seats are in good enough shape I'll use them as seats in my shop after I get some Camaro seats to go in.

Anyway I'm still torn between doing a tuned 350 or get a 455 to stick in this beast. I'll be getting a manual trans for it and my uncle thinks he knows someone with a Ford 9 inch rear that is already modified to go in a G Body complete with disk brakes so that will go in providing it is still available. He is also connected with all the old dirt track racers from the area and is going to be contacting them for me about scrounging parts.

Oh and I opened the trunk and found a butt load of springs and a few shocks lol.

Anyway here are the pics.

well a 455 that has been worked over will definitly do,it just depends on how fast you want to go,personally with my cutlass im going with a 1973 olds 350 rocket thats going to be moded like crazy

Yep can't really get a much better price than free

Oh and here is what the trunk contained.

Man, you made out like a bandit!

You know that is really funny because all the way out there the song "East Bound and Down" from Smokey and the Bandit was stuck in my head (just watched the movie the other night). Anyway then my uncle started singing the song as we were loading the car up on the trailer
 just flat out weird.

Hmmm maybe that needs to be the name for this project lol.

Anyone know off hand the weight comparison between a 350 and a 455? I want the power of the 455 but I do want to make this thing handle. I eventually plan on entering it in some autocross races for giggles.

Oh also would I be able to get the aero front off a Monte SS to fit up to this beast? I have a feeling by time its done it will be a bit of a Frankenstein G Body

A 455 Olds only weighs about 45 lbs more than a 350 Olds...
The difference can easily be shed by running an aluminum intake, and removing your a/c.

Hmmm really now? That makes it even more tempting. About how much should a 455 run me if I can track one down? Anyone have any good source for parts in the Oregon area they care to share?

Oh also the car originally had been a diesel, are the suspension pieces the same as a regular V8 car or are the beefed up at all?

I would just put another Pontiac V8 in it and call it a day, unless you have a thing for Oldsmobile engines. As for pricing, it should run you a few hundred dollars to get a tired, running engine.
