I had my cutlass stolen on wednesday and it was recovered today. it was stolen by the steering column and I had no alarm on the car. So my question is what are the best theft deterents that i can use for my car?

Bengal Tigers work well but are expensive to feed and the initial setup is expensive. Also they may eat your other pets.

Best thing would be a combination of any of the following depending on the budget;
kill switch,
steering wheel locker (the club or equivilant),
get a blinky led light in the dash so it looks like an alarm(or better yet get one)
maby 2 kill switches -make one really hidden. one thats not so hidden. Anything that slows them down for 2 minutes may make them think twice.
also seen somewhere a metal ignition cover that had a padlock. It wrapped around your column and locked so the ignition was untouchable unless you removed it.

Kill switch (maybe 2)
Battery cut off
Fuel shut off
Grant No Wheel No Steal
an Alarm
a Club, I think they're lame but they help
A column band (stainless band around the column to prevent someone from breaking it)
blinky red lights work....

Ummm I'm sure theres more but thats all my ideas... all the legal ones...

well my car was stolen a few years ago also, they didn't get far because my fan was removed, all the plugs were fouled, bad spark plug wires, no gas in the car...in short those crooks were stupid as hell, the cop found it in 45 minutes less than 5 miles away. the police thought they stripped the insides but that was my doing since i decided to fix my electrical issues before i tossed in my new motor, so I got a 2way pager alarm, steering column lock and some assult rifles. so far it been working.

A well-hidden kill switch is your best deterrent. Most car thieves won't spend more than a couple of seconds trying. If the car won't start immediately, they'll move on. Alarms are worthless for everything except annoying the neighbors. Has anyone here EVER called the police when they heard a car alarm? I didn't think so.

Am alarm is a must for deterent purposes, a kill switch is good but they will **** your sh*t up before they leave an alarm may deter them from entering it in the first place, or maybe it was the bullets i left on the seat?

well a removable steering wheel and a kill switch. and put up some motion detecting flood light outside you house.

Funny you should mention that. When I was in college in Cambridge, MA (car theft capital of the world), I got to where I could remove the sport wheel in my 68 442 in 90 sec or less and take it with me. Sure cut down on the car theft after my 67 Cutlass got stolen.
