Think I found a rear end questions

I searched for a bit and found one but I think it is a 7.5 posi. It is in a 1986 Malibu and has 3.08 gears. Is that correct? $350

I also found another non posi with 373 gears for $400 with less than 60,000 miles on it out of a Monte carlo. I think it is but Is this one a 7.5 rear too?


Would you buy either one of those????


What cover should I be looking for, 10-1/4X9-1/2 COVER or 11X10-1/4 COVER???

'86 Malibu? Last I heard production stopped in '83...
Whatever year it actually is, it's a 7.5".
Same for the Monte, 7.5" all the way.

It just boils down to what gear ratio you would prefer...

I'd be more interested in the 3.08 since it has a posi.

Unless you've got an overdrive trans, I'd stay away from the 3.73's...

Either they changed it or I read it wrong it's a 1987 Monte 3.08 locking rear.

$350 not too far from me either. How much of a difference will it be for the stock gears I have to the 3.08 gears??? I think I have 2.73 gears now. If it isn't much of a difference I will just wait till I can afford an overdrive trans and then get a 373 posi.

The 3.08's should be a pleasant gain, but won't be as noticible in the seat of your pants as the 3.73's would be.

ehhh, I guess I will wait till I can find a 8.5 posi, by that time I will have the $$$$$ to buy a brand new one.
