You guys can laugh at me if you like, but I just watched the highest grossing film of all time again today because it was on tv. Everytime I watch it I sorta wish the times of the 1900s teen years that is were still here. Cars were just coming to take form, industrialisation, jobs were everywhere, I mean all in all I really think this age we live in really stinks. Im an old conservative by nature anyway, I dont feel as though woman should be working full time I think they should be taking care of the kids at home, im not into feminism, or Equal oppurtunity employment which came about under roosevelt, yes I am somewhat rascist. I have taken a lot of history coarses covering this period, but I sometimes wonder if the us or the world will ever go back to simpler times, does anyone think so? I for one could live without computers, tv, cell phones, phones, and all the bullshit we have. To be quite frank im not happy where the world is going, im sure that 86 cutty brougham the dude from florida would agree with me here.

Everytime I watch that movie I wish I lived in that age, for 1000s of reasons. Some are not reasons im going to discuss on here. I guess thats why im going into history so I can study the times periods I love so much and wish I was a part of. If anyone has thoughts on this matter feel free to speak. Oh by the way the last titanic survivor died last week too. 😢

Well, times were simpler and more complicated back then. The turn of the last century was when we were finishing the transition from a first wave agrarian economic model to a second wave mass industrialization model. Now, we are transitioning from a second wave to a third wave, information based economic model. If you look at it that way, the world is now in a similar transitional period to what was being experienced back then. Both times have their heroes and villains. I for one do fear the present time as I see us in a free fall towards a new fascism or an old socialism. The problem is, times and technologies may change, but people are always the same with the same base natures. Remember too that there is a certain discontent that comes with being more intelligent than average. That will never change with the times as the percentages will not vary much when dealing with the distribution of high levels of intelligence in society. The fact that people who are highly intelligent tend to have very different thought patterns than the rest of society will always make the majority of those people outcasts from the mainstream. Intelligent people reason, average people feel. This is why smart politicians do not appeal to reason, but rather to feelings. After all, if you can learn to manipulate the emotions of the vast majority of the public, power will come easy even if your ideas are illogical and make no sense.

As for political ideas, the turn of the last century saw the rise of Communism and Fascism. In the US, we had policies of forced sterilization of those deemed "unfit to breed", all done in the name of the "science" of eugenics. Who was unfit? Well, if your teacher thought you were dumb and you had a bad semester in 5th grade, the government could forcibly cut your balls off so that you could not pollute the Earth with your seed. Problem is, since smart kids learn differently, many smart children were forcibly sterilized because the teacher did not like them. Yes. This was in the USA, and did not stop until 1972. Also, look at the policies of the Progressives in the US. Men like Woodrow Wilson and FDR. Many of their policies were very fascist in nature, like for example the "Alien and Sedition act of 1918". In that act, you could be arrested and thrown in jail for speaking out against government policy. It was later declared Unconstitutional, but thousands of people had their lives ruined by it. Don't forget too the forced relocation of millions of American citizens of Japanese, Italian and German origin under FDR. These people lost everything and were imprisoned for no other reason than their ethnic heritage. Then there was the world's largest pandemic with the 1918 Influenza outbreak that killed 40 million people worldwide. To this day, it has a higher death toll than any other pandemic on record. You also had millions of people killed or paralyzed by polio. Then you also had the De Facto slavery systems of factory towns and share cropping. Sure you were free, on paper, but the company or land owner owned your house, furniture, land, etc. and rented it back to you for your wages. Your food was bought at the company store at prices they set to always keep you in debt to the company so that you could never get ahead and never afford to leave. You could leave, but you would take nothing with you but the clothes on your back. Still want to live in the early part of the last century?

It is easy to look back romantically at a Hollywood rendered ideal of a time gone by. However, the truth of the matter is that it was never as nice as it is portrayed. Every time has it's positives and negatives. You have to make the best of the life you have here and now. The present has both promise and horror in it. What you make of your life is up to you.

My favorite song mother****er thoug I don't like to admit it is the Celine Dion song from the move Titanic. Every time I hear that f***in s**t it brings a tear to my eye. Why the f**k did Leonardo DiCaprio have to die?

The reality of the Titanic is that steerage and first class passengers would never have been allowed to mix. They were gated off from one another, and those gates were left locked even as the ship was sinking. This is why pretty much all of the steerage class passengers died. They were not considered to have lives as valuable as those in the higher classes, so they were caged down below as the ship was sinking. I think they even proved this with a submersible that found the gates still locked.

While this would never be allowed today, it still happens in other ways intended to keep the poor down. Credit companies set up systems designed to keep their customers in debt, like charging outrageous fees when someone is late on a payment. They do this to get you further and further behind so they can charge even more fees and interest. Buy here, pay here lots also exploit those on the fringes of society by selling them overpriced junk cars that break down on them and then get repossessed and sold to the next guy. I have heard of one car that was resold 27 times! Considering how much credit affects what you can do in life, it is a system designed to bring about the failure and enslavement of an underclass of Americans. Then there are the police who tend to target cars that are older for tickets and their drivers for harassment.

Oh yeah

im not saying the movie is 100% historically accurate, im mainly pointing out however how much simpler the world was in the United States in those ages. We didnt rely on tv. radio, or anything yet. I guess A river Runs through it would be a good example too. I happen to love that movie. Im not one for big gov like we have right now, I dont belive in gov. help, social security, welfare, food stamps, or any of the sh*t they give. People need to work for what they have, those who dont are left behind. In those days it was the same simple plan. Im not really into cross breeding either between blacks and whites. Hey its my theory on life, dont hate me for it. I am not no damn Aryan either. IN those days you didnt hear about gay rights, if you did the ****er would be shot dead, I just hate how liberal, and pathetic we have become in the U.S. Everytime I watch that movie either titanic or river runs through it i am reminded of how shitty our country has become. I could live with the society of those days, I dont know how you feel guys, just my thoughts. Do you feel as though social security will fail, I personally hope it does, Its a system that is not needed.

You need to lose the anger a bit. I have no issue with interracial relationships and some of my closest friends have been in those situations. As for gays, they have a right to live too. I may not like what they do, but it is really none of my business either. I do not believe in gay marriage though as I do not think it is the best situation to raise children in. This is not to say that straight people aren't ****ed up too, and yes. I will admit that there are some cases where kids would be better off with a gay couple than a straight couple if seen on a case by case basis. However, I will also say that I do not see legalization of gay marriage as the end of the world either. It does nothing to stop me from marrying a woman and raising kids.

I do feel the socialist structures we have today are doomed to failure by their own largess. Be it Social Security, welfare, national health care, etc. they will all fail as they drag the economy down with them. However, there are some cases where a safety net is a good thing so long as it is not exploited. The shame is that it is exploited all too often, and mostly by those who administer it.

When it comes to the information revolution we are experiencing, I happen to love it. It keeps my overactive intellect busy with things to study and ponder. I would not want to live in a time with no internet. I do, however, live without TV for the most part as I have no cable and can only get one channel. If I had cable, I could then watch oodles of educational programming which would make me quite happy. I will say though that if you do not like these things, there is nothing stopping you from opting out. You could join an Amish or Mennonite community and party like it's 1879 if you so choose. It is a free country after all ( well... at least in theory...).

As for fear and anger in my life, yes it does exist. I fear the dark cloud of Fascism that seems to be gathering over the United States first under Bush and now under Obama in the name of "Change" or " environmentalism". I find this to be far more disturbing than what two people decide to do with or to each other. The laws being proposed will curtail my freedoms, rights, and finances in ways that will make my life much more difficult in the future. I am angry about that far more than gay marriage.

Above all, don't look at the outside world as the cause of your problems in life. Try to do the best you can and learn to accept the failings of others as just a part of who they are. Life will be much easier for you when you learn to live in the great flux of imperfection that is our life here on the plain of corporeal existence. After all, life is too damn short to be angry most of the time.

well im not

religious really, those ideas about marriage, cultures etc are my own ideologies. As for the current situation going on, reminds me of star wars revenge of the syth. Obama and gov buy up GM, biggest car manufacturer in the world, they say once it gets back to normal they will sell it back, ahha yeah whos to say down the road Obama or whoevers president wont say let the people decide, people are dumb and may decide why give it back to GM, they will **** it up again, we dont want that. Or Obama may not even give it back, citing the exam same ideas over again. Other nations may do it as well, since when does the gov. have the ****ing authority in our country to step in and buy up stuff. Since never, they should have let GM fall to the ground, **** it. It irks me because in Revenge of the syth. Palpatine asks for more power so he can get rid of the sepratists. Slowly he gets the powers and gains the favrotism of the courts and senators. Eventually he reveals himself as sidious and takes over completely. This is the same scenerio. Obama is Sidious in my mind. I wonder if there are any countries in Europe that still work like 19th century United States? Gov, social norms? im sorry if some of my views are radical, just my opinions/

Sadly, the US is the last holdout. the dark cloud of Socialism has long since enveloped Europe, starting with France. If we lose the US, there will be nowhere else to go. Sadly, we WILL lose. The idiots have spoken.

This goes back farther than Obama and Bush too. We have long since let freedom be taken for us for the false sense of security we get from having the government control things. There was a short respite in the 1980's with Regan, but ever since then freedom has slowly been evaporating.
