But not many people have a flatbed avail. at will. I've got a buddy in Minnie who's dog collar saved his GN. Ugly as it may be it is very effective 90% of the time. Nice Cutty by the way man. You need to get a trunk lid on that thing tho.

Sorry to beat a dead horse here, but DelOhio said that you can drive the car with it on, the owner (86_Cutlass) said that it completely blocks the ignition where the key goes.

Can anyone confirm how column lock works? Specifically:

Basically, when this thing is on my column, can I still put my key in the ignition to start the car? Or do I have to remove this column guard to be able to insert my key?

Every freakin' view of these things on the Internet shows the left side of it and I can never see the key side to tell for myself.

I've only seen them were you CAN start the car with a key and put it in gear. I assume you can get them probably from the same company with either setup or option. The column lock that gives you the abiltiy to still start the car with a key will just deture some one from being able to break the column to start the car.

thats why i have the detachable steering wheel interface.... in my area most but not all would rather steal the car and take it to a remote area or garage and get what they want off the car than rather be caught inside. if they want it that bad they will try anything.

There is no such thing as a theft proof item, only a theft difficult one. I tend to think though that a run of the mill G body is not worth extraordinary effort to steal as the market valuation is not high, and the parts are pretty cheap to buy legally. Why risk jail time for a part that is only worth a few hundred bucks at most? Plus, if yours if harder to steal that someone else's, then they will probably go for the other car instead.

ok, after doing some more digging, I FINALLY found some better pics of this column guard. Pics found here:

EDIT: Actually, the OP's looks more like this one based on the location of his turn signal stalk hole:
http://www.steadfastautosecurity.com/cargard2.htm

It appears that the column guard the OP has, does need to be removed every time they want to drive the car. The OP did say this, but DelOhio gave me doubts.

I just looked at my Cutlass column, and the ignition where you put the key in is in between the turn signal stalk and the tilt stalk. So I would think that this column guard has to be removed every time you want to start the car.

I'm so concerned about this type of column guard because of how inexpensive ($30 on eBay, or $129 for OP version) they are compared to non-removable ones ($189 for steadfast).

Here is where you can find a non-removable column guard:

I think most theifs want to start it and go. If you can prevent that then you can stop most theives.
As for there not being theft proof, it's called a shot gun in hand standing next to the car🙂 get through that one...
Also, when I was about 10 someone tried to steal some of my bike parts, a brick to the back also seems to work for anti-theft/security.

well for starters i want to doa tune-up to get to good running order. then uprgrade the crap carb on it with probably a replacement Edelbrock quad-jet, then if the car has a th-350 transmission do a shift improver and throw a b&m z-gate shifter on the floor then get the 2 1/2 dual exhaust kit from summit with the notched out crossmember and keep stock headers. then do a posi rear-end and some Cragar ss wheels. then when i am in college i will build it a nice 350
