I put up a topic about a kicking problem in my 305 well i pulled the plugs. The whole driver side was perfect color. Then whole passenger side had bad build up on it. Wire wheeled the deposit off them and put them back in and the engine runs perfect. I dont get why the passenger side plugs would be bad and the drivers side be fine..

you should change the plugs because they are not firing as hot now even tho you wire wheeled them. and you could have bad valve guides on that head, messed up fuel distribution or any number of other things. I would get a new set and keep checking them. make note on what kind of build up it is fuel oil ect.. maybe do a leak down test to see about bad rings or valve guides

fuel won't build up on the plugs so it's got to be oil, it's most likely from worn out valve seals. How much oil is the engine consuming and how many miles on it?

You can pull the passenger valve cover and make sure the oil drain back holes arent clogged with sludge. if they are even good valve seals will suck oil. could be a half hour job to fix intead of a half day.

Probably 3,000 since it was rebuilt. It consumes about a quart every two weeks. But that is also from the leaking rear main

I've seen a rebuilt that a I had that was leaking from the rear. When I yanked the engine the rear seal was dry, the guy who changed the seal the last time did not tighten the seal housing and the oil was getting sprayed out in between the block and the housing. I've also has leaks from the pan gasket at the rear of the engine. I also just changed a couple of good quality valve seals that were shot after only 3 summers and that stopped the plugs from getting fouled with oil
