I've owned 2 5.9 equipped Durangos with no complaints other then they love to suck down fuel!! BUT the first was given to my ex which she quickly murderized, second needed a lot of work but I got out of it after the gearbox went bad... good first gen Durango's IMO... I really like the 3rd row seat concept!

My 97 expedition. 147000 on the clock. Stills runs like new. Tows my car trailer and my trailer with my kids dirtbike and quads. Love the third row seat . Great for family trips

My 81 is a 3/4 ton, has 4.10 gears.

pontiac6269, what gearing is in your 81? I had 2.76 gears in my 78 1/2 ton. The original sbc 350 and it's replacement were dogs. The Olds 307 and 350 that replaced the last sbc 350 were much stronger bottom to top. The deep 3.06 700R4 first gear will help launch but will fall on it's face when you hit second without decent gearing.
