I have a 83 regal and I'm close to buying a lq4, the only hold up is transmission choice. I will not be racing it will be a weekend toy. Lq4 will be carbed, ls3 heads, and cammed(might procharge it next year). I want a 4 speed auto trans but looking through the threads it seems like it takes a lot to go the 4l route, being that you need a stand alone computer, adapters and such. A lot of threads say avoid the 700r4 as well. So I don't know what to do trans wise. I'm focusing on the suspension right now so the motor will be purchased in January. What is the best option for my application? All opinions appreciated in advance, all work will be done by my dad and myself.

You can go with the 2004r. You'll need the correct crossmember, tv cable correction kit, and the lock up wiring. I think that's all. Also, if I not mistaken you'll need a spacer for the converter nose since you're using an older trans on a ls engine.

The 2004r that gbody parts sells are from Lonnie from extreme automatics which many on here can vouch for. http://www.gbodyparts.com/advanced_sear ... 163&y=-536
