Hey guys.
First off, the car is an '85 GP with the stock 3.8L V6 and the 3 speed transmission. Grantid, I've never driven very many 3 speed transmission cars for more than a few miles, mine seems to not be super efficient. It's only got about 86k on it for an '85. I's not that it's terrible or anything, but it doesn't seem to really grab the gears like it should. And when going up a steep hill, it seems to slip a bit. I drove it that way all last summer and it never gave me more of an issue than a little slipping up big hills. Never stopped working or anything. Regardless, I'm getting it back on the road in about a month and want to see what I can do about that. I haven't checked the transmission fluid, but based on the cars previous maintenence when I got it, I'm sure it needs done. Would a good transmission fluid change with all appropriate filters and such help? Or could I fix it much cheaper by dumping in a bottle of this Lucas transmission Fix stuff? Here's a link to what it is: http://www.lucasoil.com/products/displa ... 2&loc=show And for that, do you just buy one bottle, dump it in, and you're good to go? Also, I've seen these B&M shift improver kits at Pep Boys and stuff. Are these good to look into? If I'm getting a transmission fluid change anyway, they could just slip this in there. I'm sure it couldn't hurt... Right? lol.
And second, I've just got the regular suspension. It seems a bit lacking. Do I have stock lower sway bays on this car? I never really looked. Do Monte SS's / GN's / anything have stock ones? What is the price difference between OEM ones used and aftermarket ones? Alot? I'd like to get some OEM ones if they're not too much when I get a new suspension set-up... What is a solid low-buck set-up for daily driving? Just some sort of Monroe or something at Minekie or something? Thanks!!
