Finally Got the parents to OK a V8 swap!!!!!! My buddy, his friend, and my buddys dad will all be helping. I've looked through all the v6 to v8 parts lists (a little overwhelming) but do-able.

My only big concern is the transmission. I don't really want to swap the crossmember for another stock unit, I would like to save some money there. From what I understand, that limits the transmission choice to a THM350. How do I identify one of these? (sorry if its a stupid question) Also, what cars came with these trannys?

I will also be asking for info on rear diff. gears and posi stuff for a 7.5 later on.

Thanks all, I'm so excited right now 😀 😀 😀

man that i know of if the transmission oil pan has a cut on a coner its a 350..... but as far as code/numbers thats a good question......

Thanks!!! I guess I was too excited to actually look myself 😳

So this transmission would be in any v8 g-body? like the olds 302(correct #?) would be paired with this transmission?

talked to the junkyard owner for a while today. after talking to him and looking at my transmission, I figured out that I have a TH350. (bolt on tail shaft, cut corner on pan, does NOT have metric stamped on pan)

The bigger question is, does it have the universal bolt holes for a chevy engine? I jacked my car up and looked around, but I didn't have enough room to see if it has the universal pattern. Does anyone know any way to figure this out, or where a good place to look under the car?

You might be able to tell easier by looking up from above, if you can see where the bellhousing is bolted to the engine. Maybe. Dual bolt pattern TH350s are few and far between though. It's the 200-4Rs that seemed to get that housing a lot.

OK, thanks
