I have a leak at the back of the transmission. It is coming from a black cable with a large silver dial looking thing that screws into the transmission itself (technical terms there). What is the black line called, the silver round thing and how do you fix it?

thats leaking from your speedometer cable

I never would have guessed that in a million years. I assume I just get a new cable and put it in and all should be well? Or, is there more to it?

Just unscrew the silver wheel/dial and pull it away from the transmission and then install the new o-ring, reinstall...good as new 🙂

Just a word of advice, don't expect it to be easy, years of that thing being stuck on, you might have to get creative to try and pry it off carefully, mine was like that anyway, but maybe you'll get lucky.

-good luck.

There are two seals one in the sleeve and one O-ring.
You may also have to replace the speedo drive gear, because the usually get a grove worn in them.
Also the sleeves are often made of aluminum and get worn.
I would recommend replacing the sleeve the gear and the seals.
The replacement ones are made of steel now.
