stick with non-synthetic. if it's a stock driver you can use dextron-III. for high performance i BELIEVE dextron-V will work much better. hopefully someone else can confirm this.
I run type F in all of the old (pre-90) GM transmissions. It just has extra friction modifiers in the oil that helps the clutches grab better. It's a real plus in transmissions with lots of miles.
The newer dexron is basically the same thing. It's old dexron with friction modifier added in because the newer GM transmissions are built like the old fords.
