hey guys, I just wanted to get some opinions on what kind of transmission I should put in my 85 cutlass. I have a built 425 olds that will be going in but i want a transmission that will handle an autocross style drive but still be able to drive in on the street. Also, would the B&M Hammer shifter work in my car?

Thanks

What seats do you have in the car? I have a B&M Hammer shifter in mine with a 700R4, bench seat, fits fine and works great!

I have the bucket seats but I'm looking to put racing seats in.

Its a tight fit and you have to move the passenger side of the bench back all the way, but it still fits pretty well.

Nice. How do you like it?
p.s. I like the placement of the tach.

Thanks man. I love it. When you first put it in, even if its oiled up it can still be really hard to move from park to drive, and from drive down to 3-2-1. But once you get used to it, and get some use in its a great shifter!

I guess I could kind of help you out here. Most autocross I have heard of the cars don't get above 60 mph. So quick shifting isn't too much of an issue, you should be able to leave it in one gear. To get the most out of the car you really need a manual, but I guess and auto with a super light torque converter, so you can build more torque and get better acceleration on corner exits. A properly built 700R4 should do, you want something with a steep first or second gear for quick acceleration.
