I'm going to be changing the transmission in my 1983 GP. It has a TH350C. I imagine I can go to a straight TH350 without any ill affects? While I'm at it would it be much more expensive to find an overdirve transmission? The transmission I'm looking at is on ebay for $625.

Would I have to switch the length of the drive shaft with the overdirve transmission? I don't know anything about what to look for as far as torque converters. What's stock and what's preferable? same with Stall converters?

I'm also going to upgrade the rear gears. I don't really care about gas mileage. I won't need to drive it in the snow cus I have another ride. But, I don't want to blow it up either. It has a Stock 350 with Headers. So, what ratio would be kinda practical but a lot of fun?

Thanks for the feedback!

625 seems alot for a th350 ive seen those given away and ive also seen alot of 700r4s for cheap like 100-500 bucks depending on condition id go with the 700r4 but im pretty sure u cant use the same torque converter and u need to get a 200r4 transmission crossmember i beleive to make it work.you might also need to shorten your driveshaft depending on the transmission/driveshaft you have in there now

The 700r4 would be best used with a th350 crossmember, with a slight modification. And you would need a new convertor and would have to shorten your driveshaft. The 2004r would be easier as you could just get a stock 2004r crossmember and depending on year, a frame extension. The current driveshaft would also work. But you would still need a new convertor.
If you are wanting to run something like a 3.73 rear gear ratio, you will enjoy having the overdrive.
