Hi Everyone,

I am currently in the process of swapping out the original drive train on my 79 Malibu, (LD5) 3.8 2B8L/ (M33) auto 3spd. I already have the engine, so I been looking around for a transmission . I decided to go with a TCI street fighter, and a Saturday Night special torque converter. What do you guys think? I'm also not sure what other parts will I need ?

So far i'm planning on getting;
kick down cable
Transmission yoke (not sure if i need one ?)
Dipstick
Transmission cooler

I'm also concerned that my rear wont last. It's a (GU2) 2.73, what do you guys think?

It all depends on luck with the rear, I have the same and beat on it with no problems,knock on wood...

I had a 1983 grand prix, same thing and the 350 engine in that went first,,,,I beat on that one WAY WAY more, no problems.

You have to fill in the blanks a little better. What kind of transmission is it? (TH-350?, TH-400?, Etc.) What is in the engine? planned use for the car? slicks, drag radials or street tires?

As for me, I have yet to blow a 7.5 rear end, but I have yet to hook up either. I am switching to a 5 speed manual and plan on a 8.5 rear axle swap at the same time as I don't see the 7.5 taking repeated beatings from a manual transmission.

Sorry about that. The engine is a 350 H.O turn key crate ( 330hp/380tq, 9.1:1 comp.) I'm planning on going with TH350. I'm also going to be using it as a daily with street tires.

Forgive me for not knowing RPO codes ... isn't the M33 already a th350? or is that the 200 Metric?

I looked up the RPO code, and it only said it was a; Auto/ 3spd/ torque. I'm actually not sure if it's a 350 or a 200

If the pan says "Metric" it's a 200 ... if it does not you have a th350. I would not go by the RPO code and assume what trans is there. Many Metrics were swapped for th350s while still under warranty (yes they were THAT good).

Thanx DrRansom442 for the help. I also found that the th200 metric has an 11 bolt pan vs the th350 13.

I also found this thread on th200 to th350 swap for those of you doing this in the future;
http://www.hotrodders.com/forum/th200-t ... 10912.html

true but why count the bolts? a TH350 won't say "Metric" in huge letters and I don't think the aftermarket made a pan for a 200 Metric.
