hey guys i have a ? when replacing a transmission is it best to attach the torque con to the transmission and place the whole thing or leave the torque con on the fly wheel cause i heard if u do the later u can mess up the t.c. true

put the torque converter on the trans first. this way it's filled with fluid and you don't have to line up the splines. it's a whole lot easier to turn the trans to line things up than the engine. plus if it's on the flexplate you have to work around it when positioning the trans.

ok so fill the converter with fluid attach it to the transmission then place it in right? another ? if the converter is not filled what happens and if u have a good transmission and no fluid in the converter it wont move? and is there a way to see if the transmission is still goodb4 u put ti in THANKS i really need the help

No fluid in the torque converter means it won't move you gotta prime it.Yes fill it stick it on the transmission and then lifting it all up bolt it to the block and the flex plate its not that hard.Have a long standard screwdriver you can shove it in the teeth of the flex plate to turn it f needed.

ok thanks ill give this a try today and stop listening to the shadetree mechanics. i will get all my info off this site it has been very helpful. i will also let u guys know when i get it running.

The torque converter has at least three sets of splines that must be engaged when you install it in the trans. It is virtually impossible to get this right if you leave it on the flexplate and try to put the trans on the engine. Usually you must push, rotate, and wiggle the converter (along with liberal cussing) to get it all the way installed in the trans.
