Hey guys new to the site recently bought a 87 monte carlo ls I replaced the trunk lid on the car the rear tail panel where the liscense plate bracket attaches is bent up and the latch was ripped out and just tack welded inplace to keep old tunk lid down but here's my issue I installed a new trunk lid and gap is a decent quarter inch or so up by the rear window and then back by the tail lights it's tight on both sides idk where to go about getting it adjusted I can post picturns tomorrow to shed more light on the situation any help would be appreciated

Sounds like the rear body panel may have pulled the quarters in a little if it's bent very badly.

Then of course there is the issue that the gaps on these cars were never anywhere close the what is expected today. The gaps on my wagons are HORRIBLE. Panel alignment (flushness) is very poor as well. Different time and different expectations...and one reason imports gained a strong foothold on the North American market during the time G bodies were being produced.

Still love 'em though!

Yea the liscense plate filler panel is supposed to sit flush up against the rear tail panel and it doesn't so it may have bent the quarters in a little but no obvious signs besides that and the panel gap I may cut the tail panel from a junk yard car tomorrow to replace mine if I do that maybe with mine cut out I can finesse the quarters back a little otherwise not sure what to do the back of the lid lightly rubs both quarter when closed
