I just noticed today that my '80 Malibu has a trunk light in it. I've never seen one in a g-body before. Even my old GP SJ that had an option list longer than any other car I've seen didn't have one.

Do any of you have a trunk light? It's mounted on the driver side of the trunk lid towards the back.

Yeah, mine is burned out too. That's why I didn't notice it. But maybe a lot of them have a trunk light, but always burned out too lol.

As does my car. It's a pretty common thing actually. It is operated by a mercury switch, just like an old time home thermostat.

nope my 78 trunk lid is clean. and with original paint i might add! it's really close to the color now!

On Malibu it was part of the "Auxiliary Lighting" option. That added courtesy, glove box, ash tray, under hood, and trunk lights.

I believe it may have been standard equipment on Classic models, not certain on that. Classic came with a few extras over the base model, mostly extra noise damping material and interior/exterior trim.

Now, upper level A/G bodies had lots of things that Malibu did not. Would expect the aux lighting to be standard on Olds and Buicks.

Oh, and the trunk carpet wasn't an option, all GM cars came with that by 1980 😀

My Regal has one. It had a hood light at one time but it's completely rusted off.

I love this site. What other site could I get a response like this about a trunk light lol. Thanks guys.
