so cal
so i removed original paint, wet sand to bare metal and thru n some fresh spray can primer ..now the primer is special for cars but its spray can i dont know if should of trusted that i planted on keeping that primer for at least a year
so 1 week later it starts rusting the rust goes through the primer and now 3 weeks later and its getting worst what can i do about it i dont know much about auto body should i sand down thru that primer and rust thats coming out and clean the trunk with paint thinner and is their some kind of chemical that i could put on their before the primer thats corrosion resistant ,,,or my other option was primering it and painting it with some rust & corrosion resistant spray paint any i deads ??? what would i be doing wrong and is there a right way on doing this on my own i dont got the money to go to body shop ..thanks to anyone who helps out

I would sand it back down to bare metal, then clean it with a metal prep. Hit it with the primer again and then put a top coat of paint on it. That should seal it from moisture until you can get to next year.

I would call the trunk lid a total loss at this point. It would have to be stripped and acid etched to get all of the rust off, then treated with a real primer, not spray can stuff. You need an epoxy primer over an etching primer base if you go bare metal. Spray cans are lacquer primer and do nothing to hold out moisture. If you are going to do it yourself, you will need a respirator, an air compressor and a paint gun to apply the material. Even still, the epoxy primer surfacer will not hold up well for the intended time period as it is not meant to be resistant to UV light. It is supposed to be uncovered only as long as it takes to do body work and get it in paint.

my trunk well its really really light rust on the outter surface i mean real light like you cant sand it out with a 1000 grit sandpaper if u really tried but i was just very concerned because i dont want it to get worst . but i dont have the money right now for like a spray gun and all those material even though i do got access to a compressor

now i dont know if ama do the right thing but this is the most inexpensive way that i have in mind sanding down to bare metal till no rust which is not much more to go ,,going to the store and buying like 3 cans of rust resistant "rust oleum primer spray " and three cans of "flat black corriosoin resistant paint " and adding a couple coats of clear coat do you think this would hold up for one year just so i can get enough money for body work i live in south cali so the weather is not that cold but their has been some rain

I don,t think that you need to wright off your lid. Are you just spot sanding or the hole thing . being in cali we dont have the crap that other states have like road salt and stuff. Sand back down bare and clean it with the metal prep to stop the rust and reprime it ,be sure to clean it good. It woun,t last a year so you,ll have to do it again. I have spray bombed fenders and stuff and its lasted a long while . even being out in the sun. hope this helps

by any chance is metalp prep something like paint thinner is very close or is it a whole other also how does acetone and paint thinner differ??

No its A light acid that most body shops or metal workers use to clean bare metal. Thinner won,t do anything but take dust and dirt off. check at auto paint supply store.Get some rubber gloves also .It will clean off any surface rust before you prime again.
