Trying to keep it a sleeper

Take a look at a 98-2003 Dakota R/T factory exhaust. The 2 inch Y pipes dump into the converter individually and the pipe coming out the back is 3" thru the Walker Dynamax muffler and out thru the stainless tip.

In dyno tests, people have put duals on them from the cat back and have lost 2 hp and 5 #s of torque thru the rev range.
Only when they put headers on them did they gain power.

Depending on how much emission stuff you need to keep there are a few options.
I'm not required by law to have the EGR stuff and plan to remove it all. From what I understand, the only drawback would be the check engine light constantly on.

I ran a Monte SS hi flow cat, at present the one on the car seem to have had all it's guts fall out.
I've heard of this phenomenon. If the guts of my stock cat were to fall out would that allow enough flow for the performance I'm looking for? Or am I better off just getting a hi flow cat? Sorry for all the questions, but you know how we MFB's are
If you're not required to have emissions stuff, I wouldn't even bother with a cat. They do ok for emissions-specific stuff, but if it's not being smogged I'd just leave it off.

Far as the check engine light, you can just use a carburetor & distributor that isn't controlled by the computer, and disconnect the computer altogether.

Let me correct myself in that we aren't smog checked here, but if a cop wanted to he could issue a ticket for not having a cat. I at least want to play pretend in this situation.

I checked at Pypes yesterday and held thier 3" cat in my hand, so if you need too......

There is no need to delete the EGR. The egr only works during cruise type conditions and does not function at W.O.T. It acually keeps the combution chamber cooler so it could help performance in the slightest way.

My car still has the EGR with a small orifice and one of those empty cats , it does not trip a check engine light.

Also if you are dead set on a non-functioning EGR, a plate between 2 gaskets will seal it off and it would still "look" like it should work or as you stated "pretend". 😉

Interesting that you say keeping the EGR might help a little. I always hear "take that crap out and you'll gain 5-15 horse." But from looking at your credentials in this forum, I'll take your word over thiers. The issue I have now is that I already have a motor built with a carb and intake that aren't going to work with the EGR stuff (it was originaly built for my '79 Monte project but i've run out of money and patience for that at the moment) so my options are buy 2 extra parts or just go w/out the emissions stuff.

Anyway, I was wanting to grill you on some Pypes product. Was looking at thier site and liked what I was reading about the Race Pro muffler, three questions for ya.

What does the sound output of that muffler closest resemble to in the Flowmaster family?

How long does it take for that stuffing to blowout? Or on any given muffler for that matter.

And is the Race Pro suitable for a mild street car like mine?
