I am really looking for an education, a recipe, and a shopping list. I have an 84 Cutlass, Right now I have 18in wheels with a 255 tire on the rear. I would like to change to a ford 9inch, with disc brakes, and have the ability to have a larger tire . Not huge slicks, and big tubs. Just maybe a 315 size. would like a pro touring look. Don't know where to start with measurements, or calculations. Can I get what I'm looking for by just a frame notch, without tubs? Hopefully there's some answers out there

In short, to fit a 315 on a Cutlass you're gonna likely need a mini tub. You could try all day to get the back spacing and such right, but the Cutlass doesn't have the same room in the wheelwell as others especially the Monte's which have the most I believe.

Mini-tub it, notch the frame, 11" wide wheels with 6" backspacing, and a 315 tire will fit with ease. I did all of that and I was still able to squeeze 345s under my wagon, I just cannot tuck the tires as much as I would like.

I did fit 315s with some serious backspace-blacksmithing on my old Turbo Buick without any modifications other than aggressively rolling the rear wheel well lips.

18x9.5 5.25" B.S with 295's and all I had to do was notch the frame to the weld. No quarter rolling, no wheel tub alterations and it's lowered 2" to boot!
