i went looking for parts today for my mc,and i saw "alot" of nice late model vehicles.with us govt. on the window, guess they are cash for clunkers.saw older cars, but alot of cars less than 10 yrs. old.there was cars everywhere,i've never seen so many cars in a wrecking yard.watched 2 cutlasses get hauled to the pile.all those nice cars that will be scrapped, sad.
got some vacuum parts and a tail light ext. off an mcss.also got a gauge cluster off a different mc,that i cant use, my 86 mc didnt come w\gauges. 😢 the "instrument cluster" was broken up pretty good.unusable.other than that was a good haul today.

So are Cash for Clunkers being sold as scrap, or just to junk yards for them to part out? In theory in shouldn't matter what they're done with after Cash for Clunkers since they're made undrivable by destruction of the engine.

The yards can sell parts off the CFC cars, but not the engine. Not sure about trannys though. But it is only for a cartain amount of time then they have to be crushed. I found it odd that Canada has done this program also. I saw this when I was in Winnipeg for work.

Yeah I was surprised when I heard the first add on the radio.....then shortly after....driving by one of the dealers.. they've got a big dumpster out front with one car's front end sticking up at one end and another car's rear sticking up the other side. Sure is sad to see this program.

I used to be sad that this was happening, but now I'm ok with it.
I read (I think in 4x4 offroad magazine dont quote me on it tho) that the #1, 2 and 3 vehicles turned in were the Ford Explorer in the later 90's models.
Yeah get rid of all the clunkers. Leave my chebby alone
