This summer has pushed me over the edge. I am ready to get some damn A/C. Does anyone know if there are under dash systems that are simply bolt ups? I'm thinking along the lines of a window unit for a house. I got rid of everything having to do with A/C in my car to make room under the hood. Anyway for me to have my cake and eat it too?

I absolutely had to comment on this being I live in Texas too. I see a lot of people on here deleting their a/c systems on here. Well maybe it's not a big deal for them because they don't live in the south where triple digit weather is constant for months, or it's not their daily driver but that is something that I will never sacrifice for HP gains or space under the hood! NO F-ING WAY! Although I have air conditioning 😀 , I was thinking about deleting it when I do my motor swap. Only problem is, if I cant have my a/c (finding a compatible under dash unit), I'm just going to have to settle with keeping the GOD FORSAKEN 307 under the hood :x. Although, I do have a SBC 350 complete with a/c that I can put in there with a RWHP rating over 415 (and that was in the truck it was in!) to throw in there!

well, why not get a factory system? even with a big block there should still be room under the hood. hell, you can fit a duramax w/AC in there!

Main reason I got rid of it was it made changing the spark plugs a living nightmare. And tightening down that last bolt on the headers, wtf?? The A/C never worked anyway, not since I've been driving it. My dad was the original owner, and he worked on that A/C dozens of time, and finally gave up in 96.

The problem was it was coming on, and you could hear it run, but it never came through the vents. It was clogged or leaking somewhere, and no one could ever find where.

My GP blows air out the vents but not cold air. I mean its not hot air it blows but its still not cold. I would like to get it worked on but hate to find out how much it would cost. Anyone have an idea what it might run for what I need?

Anyone?

first you have to determine if the AC system is working. is the compressor turning on? do the controls work?

Not sure. Would have to check. I know the controls work.

The question still hasnt been answered. "Does anyone know if there are under dash systems that are simply bolt ups? I want to know if there is such a system too. I live down south and deleted my a/c too

As far as I know, there isn't an under dash unit available for G-body cars. If there was, there would not be enough room under there to mount it. However, one or two of our members had installed a Vintage Air set up in place of the factory air box/blower unit.
It did look like a heck of a lot of work getting the air ducts lined up, plus fitting the unit into the old airbox opening.
I think it was Andrew. I'm sure someone will chime in and explain what this swap entails.
