I am going to be replacing the swaybar in my GP soon, as it has holes starting to rust through it. My question is, did all Gbodies come with the same size swaybar? Or did 'sportier' models (MCSS, GN...) come with thicker or solid ones? If so, I'll replace mine with a better one. Also, I thought I read somewhere that GNs came with a rear swaybar too. Did they?

I believe that there was a 7/8" or 1" and a 1 1/8" sway bar from the factory. I found a 1 1/8" bar on a 86 GP in a wrecker here. I've noticed alot of Cutlass came with rear sway bars, should bolt right in.

Did you say that the sway bar is starting to rust THROUGH? Usually the O.E. sway bars are solid metal, and while I've seen them with heavy surface rust, I've never seen one rust right through. Exactly where is the rust through occuring on the bar?
Usually, the sportier model G bodies will be equipped with front and rear sway bars. Normally, the front bar is 1 1/4", and the rear bar is 7/8".

I have a base 79 GP it has a front anti sway bar and no rear anti sway bar.
I also have a 79 GP SJ it has a larger diameter front anti sway bar and a rear anti sway bar

It is a solid bar. And it IS starting to rust through, right in the center of the bar. It looks like it was just a poor alloy or something, because it looks like its split open and flaking apart, like if you had a newspaper rolled up, then sliced through part of it lenghtwise. Wish I had a picture. Probably going to the Zone tomorrow, so I'll just start listing Gbodies, and see what they have listed for rear bars. Thanks.

I picked up a F-body front bar last year off a 85-86 Trans Am ws6 and a rear bar off a Regal coupe with 8cyl in it.Big difference they made on my car since it only had the base bar up front and no rear bar(v6 sedan).
