Hey all, I have a 1986 Cutlass Supreme Brougham as a daily driver (for now) but when I bought it the front upper arm controls were going bad but now both sides are toast. The rubber bushings are annihilated and almost gone. I need this car to last until Fall. I have a shop where I can do all this on a lift but I don't know how hard it will be. The rubber bushings are like $25 for each side but they need pressed. How can I go about doing all of this by myself (with the help of 1 person)? Any videos or instructions? Also, how long will this take and what can I do to press the rubber bushings?

Thanks in advance!

If the shop your using has a press it does make it easier, but you don't have to have one, I've done them with a hammer and a block of wood before, just be carefull not to bend the control arm. I always found taking the two nuts off the end of the shaft while the arm is still bolted to the frame makes it much easier, I always light the rubber on fire with a torch let it sit outside till the rubber is burnt away, then just tap the steel sleeve out. I have a press so then I start both new ones on the shaft and cut two 1"x1" pieces of tubing to go next to the shaft on the inside of the arm so the press doesn't crush the arm, then use the two old sleeves to press the new ones in, not that hard of a job, you might want to look at the lower arm bushings and the rears, if the upper ones are bad most likely they all are.
