Where do I connect the vacuum ball at on my engine ? And does it have anything to do with my brake pressure staying hard
? Can somebody explain what is it for

There is also a second one mounted behind one of the headlights for the cruise control. If your brake pedal is hard and you have a relatively unmodified engine, I'd be checking a few things. Make sure all your vacuum lines to the booster are hooked up/not leaking, make sure the check valves going into the booster still work. Or maybe your booster is going bad.

I think up to 1985 Chevy used a vacuum servo for the cruise control...pictured here just to the right of the distributor...

The other lines and newer models probably used the large ball you mentioned.

I second your suggestions on the hard break issues.

I had a 231 V6, and mine was mounted by the charcoal canister. Is that just to supply vacuum for emissions stuff?

I have to admit I'm more familiar with the Chevy stuff....owning mostly Malibu's and El Caminos. I have however seen the ones that Kwik_Cutty mentioned behind the headlights as well as under the front of the inner wheel well. This has been mostly Cutlass...honestly haven't paid too much attention to the others.

The round vacuum ball is to prevent the HVAC from changing modes when going uphill. Load increases on engine and vacuum drops. It acts as a reservoir with a check valve. With a hard brake pedal the first thing is does the engine run properly? If not, fix first. If it runs good check the vacuum supply to the booster as the quadrajet vacuum passage has a habit of plugging up. If should have quite a bit of vacuum as that passage could be partially plugged. If that is good I would bet on a booster. I have never seen the check valve bad without physical damage
