Immediately following WWII, Europe was pretty well bankrupt as were most of it's people. So, in order to provide cheap transportation, the microcar was born. These cars had engines as small as 50cc's, or about as small as a moped! Many were odd looking things with bubble domes, one front opening door, 3 wheels, canvas bodies, and other "unique" characteristics. The biggest ones have 750cc engines, but most were much smaller. I have already put up a thread dealing with one of my favorites, the Trabant from East Germany, but there were MANY others too. Some of the manufacturers you have heard of before (BMW, Fiat, Mini), but most of them you probably haven't (at least they were new to me!). Anyhow, here is the link to the museum.
