I wish a healthy and happy Veteran's Day to all my fellow vets. My NALC union local just had a Veterans Appreciation ceremony at our November meeting. A fine dinner and a great bunch of guys, some of whom actually still fit into their old uniforms! My last post was with the 16th Engineer Battalion, Furth Germany, part of the 1st Armored Division.

Regardless of rank, branch, MOS, or service time, if you served...you served. You need justify to no one the final record.

thank you for your service,i know the current state of the world right now is rather divided but without the sacrifices made by others we wouldn't be able to live our lives the way we do.

I don't have a lot of pics from back then. But while perusing the interwebs I discovered a site called the "Nuremberg Military Community' http://www.nbg-mil-com.de/. People post pics from their days stationed in the various Kasernes and barracks. I was in Johnson Barracks, on Schwabacher Strasse, Furth. I spotted two pics from when I was there. The first is from 1973 showing the track vehicles in the motor pool. But the second one from 1975 really floored me. It is a ceremony on American Day, and General Price, Commander, 1rst Armored Division, is presenting awards to some of us resulting from the IG inspection that summer. Well, that young Spec 5 on the end is me, and I was representing S4, of which I was the ammo daddy, and the IG team said I had the best ammo books in the entire division. That is because I took it upon myself to head over to Division Headquarters in Ansbach, and consult with the crusty old NCOs that were going to be on the IG team. They showed me what they wanted to see, and I gave them just that. I guess that impressed them since the guy I replaced was taken out in handcuffs over his crappy ammo books. I remember the official ARMY photographer, complete with a big old flash camera like Jimmy Olson used to use. Amazing this official photo survived and made it to that site.
