Hello All
I need a passenger side visor mount for my 85 monte carlo ss. No light on the visor no illumination.. I found a few on ebay but the sellers do not know if these are for a visor with or without the light. Whats the difference and how could I explain to someone on ebay.
thanks

T top or hardtop? They are different. The lighted visor will have a wire thru the middle and at least on the t top version the pin that goes into the visor is about 6'' long ,not sure if the hardtop or astro roof are long like the t top version.

Hello
Thanks for the reply. My car is a hardtop. 1985 SS. Would the lighted version work on the non lighted visor? Mounting holes the same??

Mounting holes are the same for each version. i.e., you can use a lighted T-top version bracket for an unlit one, but you can't use an unlighted version for a lit one. There's a hole for the wire slipped in there. The driver side doesn't have an official lighted version of either style. The T-top version angle is "flatter" while the hard top version is more angled. The unlit T-top version is the same p/n for either side. There is only one part number for hard top either lit or unlit for either side as well. The T-top passenger side lit version is the only time you have a different part number.

Edit: But wait a second...……..parts book may be suspect.....

I just re-read that mess I put up there. Good Lord......

GM p/n 3070421 shows for different years as both for the non-lighted vanity mirror and also has another year G47 listing the lighted vanity uses p/n 20098644. They all got holes in them! Also the 4-door body, and B-body used the same ones. Friggin' parts book is deceiving. I would think that if you had a lighted vanity, you'd need the different part number because it has the LONG pivot spear. So if I were to guess...….I'd guess that non-lighted passenger side hard top uses 3070421. Use the 20098644 for the lighted version.

But in your case, you can use the same p/n 3070421 for either side. The lighted visor support may work as well as it has the hard top mounting in the same place, etc, but why get that when you can get what you need.

You also may need a sleeve or two that slides into the visor where the pin of the support bracket goes into. P/N 12337899 from the 6-91 Monte parts book.

WOW Thank you. Lots of good info and I can get a set ,both sides for 20 bucks on ebay. Thanks much

how do i tighten the visors? mine flop down a little. it is on a 1980 cutlass t top
A couple things may be going on. You have to do some work here to find out. If the PIN itself is loose, no matter how much you tighten the visor, you're not going to stop the flop. You may need to repair that or replace it. If you just need a new sleeve insert in the visor that goes over the pin (see pic above) then you can just replace it. These usually don't get damaged, but they are plastic and age/brittleness get them sometimes.
