Wagon space saver spare

Paul,
You're right. We generally don't think about the spare tire and what condition it's in, etc. As the old adage goes, out of sight, out of mind.
I'm thinking possibly a space saver from a Monte SS, being that the spare would be closer in size to the tires on the car....like the standard 215/65 x 15 on an SS or GN. However, a Monte Carlo, or other G-body car would not have to contend with a narrower/smaller tire. Unlike a wagon, there's no well to contend with.

Good idea. For my Monte I was able to just stick a full size spare in the wheelwell, if I recall. Been awhile, I have stock spares in them now, but a bigger wheel/tire would be an issue, but a 15" up to 235 I want to say, would fit snugly.

I was using a 14" Olds Cutlass rally wheel and tire that barely fit. But I use that compartment to carry all kinds of chit: ratchet straps, jumper cables, removeable hitch, non-factory jack and lug wrench, pair of gloves, spare quart of oil, gallon of water, and a 150lb. chunk of steel for extra traction in the winter.

My buddy gave me a space saver that fits the correct bolt pattern. The tire spec is T125/70D15 I'm also not concerned with which corner it goes on. Don't have posi and only need to limp home on it.
Mark,
I also like to keep some extra stuff in the tire well. Jumper cables, jack, lug wrench, assorted belts and maybe an extra hose or two.
The tire size that you mentioned is, I believe, a standard G-body size donut.

Paul,
Of course, if I had a choice to use a full size tire as a spare, that would be my preference. But having a wagon you're somewhat limited as to what you can fit in the tire well. Keeping it on the cargo floor kind of defeats the purpose of having the space back there to carry other stuff.

A P205/70R15 (26.3") or a P195/70R15 (25.7") on a 15x6 wheel should work as a temp spare.
Thanks for your suggestions. The 195/70x15 on a 15x6 rim sounds like it might work out nicely. It would probably fit in the well better than the 205/70 x 15.... from what I can gather.
