Ok here it is guys
82 wagon with a sbc 305
Brand new alternator
I jumped the red plug wire over to bigger 10g wire and it runs straight to my battery, not 100% sure if that's right
The brown plug wire from alt.goes where?
I have took my dash apart just to find the indicator light wire and plug which I think it goes there but not sure.

I can jump the car over and she'll run
I can take the hot post off and she stays running,I can turn the car off and start it right up for ab 10min,anything longer then 30mins she won't do anything.please please help it's my daily driver and I need her back on the road,

this should help...

Thanks,so I need a hot going from alt.to the starter solioid ? Is there anyway I can put the brown wire from the plug anywhere else for it to I guess send a signal to alt. Like the fuse box in a battery pin or acc.pin?

Have you put a meter across the alternator, and or battery to see what it's putting out? I'm not sure if the '82-'83 dash has a charge light in the dash or not.
What type of alternator are you using...10si, 12si, CS130, etc.?

There's a good chance that your battery isn't taking a charge.

If your brown energize wire is open, which I kinda suspect it might be, you can run a new lead in place of the brown alt wire to a switched +12 volt source on the fuse panel.

The 10 ga, wire from the batery to the alternator should be okay. I assume it's a replacement for the red coming off the starter to the alternator.

I believe I got it now I ran the brown to a accessory port in the fuse box under dash, it seems to be working,i tested battery and it was reading 12.3v I cut it off went to a friends house for a couple hours and when I got home she fired right up.
Now I gota put all my dash back together I pulled it out bc I thought it had to be to the light to resister the signal, and I have no idea ab the alternator it's a cheap *ss ORieleys one I told em it for a 76 camaro 305. Half of my dash lights aren't in it anyways someone had pulled ab all of em I guess when the motor swap happened.but Thanks guys I really appreciate it bc when it comes to wiring I'm lost,

Was that 12.3V with engine running? If so alt is not charging system.

There was something else that I forgot to mention. You must run a resistor inline with the new lead to replace the alternator charge light. You'll need it to excite, or energize the alternator.
I'll have to go back to see what I used for a resistor.

12.3 volts is low for an output reading. Unless you tested the battery not running. The alternator output should be closer to 14 volts. A charged battery should be in the range of around 13+ volts.

Painless wiring calls for a 85 ohm, 5 watt resistor. I used a 68 ohm, 1/2 watt. Go to your local Radio Shack. They usually have a good variety of resistors, etc.

I haven't had a problem with it yet it seems to be charging just fine all I did was run the brown to the fuse box n dash and I heard the car idle down and tested alt.and it was hot and battery was 12.whatever v but it was still charging so I'll double check it. But I wanna say thanks again man I hate wiring more then anything.

Thanks for your post cause it helped me out not having to research.....the only problem was Radio Shack which in now called the Source isn't the source for anything, they didn't have the resistor close to what you mentioned or what Painless uses and even if they had I would have had to buy a box of 40... :wtf: I'll hit my buddy tomorrow at his stereo shop...

Steve,
I didn't know that about Radio Shack. :? Everything changes...nothing stays the same. Too bad.
