Hey guys I have an 85 cutlass I just picked up. Eventually it will sport a 6.0 backed by a 4l60 or4l80 but that's a ways off. I plan on taking care of any and all issues then suspension wheels brakes and so on before I do the motor and trans. I see so many People swapping in high hp motors and all they do is make cool smoke shows. I want mine to hook. But back on the topic. Until I'm ready to do my swap I'm stuck with the 307 I did a full tune up yesterday n she's running really nice but I was wondering 1st off how do they sound with dual exhaust? Any suggestions on a set up? 2nd is there anything to be gained by ripping all of the smog related junk out? 3rd is it worth my time to run headers or just run stock manifolds with dual exhaust. don't mistake this for me trying to make the 307 fast that's not what I'm doing I just want her to run at her full potential stock and hopefully sound good doing it.

Tough to really give advice to spend money on something you're just going to rip out and not be able to transfer anything over to your new engine/setup. My thoughts are since you have the crappier swirlport 307, there's not much that's going to help you. The most I'd do would be older 307 exhaust manifolds ( I'm assuming you have those horrid 'stainless' ones ) and true dual exhaust. Bump the timing a bit ( I'm assuming you're still running the CCC system ) and maybe put richer secondary rods in the carb.

Here's some more 307 tips; http://performanceolds307.tripod.com/

'85 don't have the swirl port heads

I wouldn't touch the engine itself. Stock is reliable. If you add a good exhaust system it can be used with your future engine swap. The best thing you can do to wake up a stock 305/307 is swap in better gears. I'm sure that's part of you planned upgrades already.

Yeah gears are definitely on the to do list before the motor goes in. If things go extremely well it'll all get done this winter but more than likely it'll be next winter the more I plan the more it costs. Lol everytime I sit down and start thinking about exactly how I want it in the end I add 5-600 bucks worth of parts. Lol Thanks though I'll probably do I decent exhaust system and call it a day. To vv I know it sounds kind of stupid to put money into something I plan on getting rid of Im just one of those people that can't leave stuff alone. Im not planning on spending a lot of money just a few hundred bucks on exhaust maybe rip the smog pump and related crap out of there. Idk if it is to any benefit on the g body though? I have had about 5 fbodies and that was always one of the first things to go.

Yeah they do, providing it's stock and it's not an 85 442.
