I've been lokking around for quite a while to find a decent motor. I found a chevy 427 big block that i want to put in my 1984 buick regal. I'm just wondering if it is virtually the same as doing the SBC swap. I've looked on here for several days and can't find a straight answer. What I really want to know is if it will drop into place on the SBC motor mounts, and where can i get those mounts. (part numbers and stores would be helpful)

Thanks

any auto parts stores should have them and you can just ask for a 305 motor mounts for a 78-83 malibu should be the same and the big block takes the same mounts. the problem your going to have is exhaust it is really close to the a/c box and steering

headers will be a pain. the best ones to use are hooker super comp. expensive but worth it.

Hmm, you might have to use old style exhaust manifolds :puke: if your headers don't fit

Check measurements for your crossmember/transmission mounts also. If it doesn't fit right, just make an extension/brace & bolt or weld in.

By the way, how much/where did you find the 427? That's a pricey engine.

Remember too that there are 2 basic 427's: Car and Truck. The truck block has a taller deck height than the car one and may cause more clearance issues.

I have knuckles to put into the steering shaft if that ends up hitting, and the heater and AC is more than likely being removed. It is a rust free car, and being from wisconsin, I will store it and drive my truck in the winter.

The motor, is out of a 68 chevelle ss. I am getting it for $2000.00 from carb to pan, as well as water pump, alternator, and all of that good stuff, plus a big block torque convertor. The motor is pretty new and has less than 20,000 miles on it. The only reason I am getting it so cheap is that it is from a really good friend, and i helped him pull it out, and have done other work on his car.

Whats wrong with the Chevelle? Was that the cars original engine?

Unless it was a Yenko or Baldwin/Motion car, it's not the original motor. Remember that GM had a 400 ci cap on it's midsize cars thru '69, with rare exceptions sliding out here and there. (Yenko, B/M, Nickey, H/O, etc...)

Big blocks fit fine, but you should find out if it's a tall deck motor or not.

Nothing...Nothing at all was wrong with the chevelle, we just felt the need to purchase a 472 and drop it in there. Just a hunger for a bigger motor, thats all. So now I have a hunger to put the 427 into my buick because I spun 2 bearings in my olds 350. The 427 was not the original, but was bought brand new.

where are you located in wicsonsin, if you are close i would be more than glad to come and help. again.. hooker super comp headers WILL fit.
