Just some info for you guys...DO NOT put a mechanical clutch fan with a spacer on the GM Serpentine belt system. Just snapped the pulley and fan right off my water pump.

Are you sure you don't have a problem with your fan or clutch? Many GM serp systems use a mechanical fan, usually if you destroy a water pump it is something out of balance, or a bad water pump. A buddy of mine has a "604" crate motor in his 81' Monte with a GM performance serp system, he swapped out the water pump for a Edelbrock pump and changed the balancer on the motor and he hasn't had any issues and he has been running it for a couple years now

I assumed it was either the water pump or the 1.25" spacer. These serpentine pulley's seem much better balanced than my previous v-belt setup. Here are some pics of the damage

Last pic looks like you had a bearing failure in the pump.

Cadillac ran a fan and fan clutch on the Brougham with a 5.7 TBI and a serp drive . If I remember correctly it had a Fan blade and fan clutch that was set up to run the same direction as the reverse rotation water pump.
Same with hundreds of thousands of C/K and S/T trucks since the '80s.

Yup, water pump, thermal clutch and fan are all counter clockwise rotation. I think it was either bearing failure, balance issue or spacer threw something off...unfortunately I took out my radiator and put a little dent in my hood and destroyed my V8 fan shroud

Ok next question was the alignment hole in your spacer a tight fit on the little "t*tty" on the pump? 5/8" and3/4" are both pump shaft sizes, most spacers have a 3/4" hole in them with a bushing to step them down to 5/8", I have seen many circle track guys make that mistake

Ok that should have worked fine, I guess it's something with the clutch or the blade itself, or a faulty water pump.
