Discovered today that the gray wagon has had a rear axle swap. No, not to a good one. Has a metric stud 2.41 in it instead of the 2.56 SAE stud that should be there. SAE front and metric rear...what is it with people?

All the more reason to change it to something else I guess.

I'm thinking 3.23 or 3.42 since it'll see turnpike duty

what year is your car?. You can change the studs, just measure the knurl and get the same knurl with the thread you want

I planned to change the gearset anyway, i guess this will just provide the incentive to freshen up another axle assembly and swap it in at my leisure. Might just go to metric studded rotors as well when it needs them.

Just find it hard to believe that people don't care about the details on stuff like this. I actually had this scenario once before when my (at the time) employer wanted to put a metric stud rear axle assembly in an 8000 mile 1980 Cutlass we were repairing. I managed to persuade him to do it right...the liability alone if someone mixed up the lugnuts at a tire change would have kept me from even considering it.

your right, a 7/16 lugnut is close to the 12 mm lugnut and I have seen that mistake done
