Get a 200 r4 from a junkyard. Most of them have a multibolt pattern bell housing. You will need a new crossmember for that trans. Since it is a fresh rebuild, go get an Olds 350 and build it up while you can still drive a reliable car. Once you get the 350 done take out the 307 and drop in the 350. I am telling you to go Olds because every thing will swap over with no problems(all of the accessories, same motor mounts, maybe exhaust manifold????) I am pretty sure that you are able to use the computer equipment also, it should adjust for the bigger engine.

The smallest olds I was talking about was the 307 block, not some bomb that was made a million years ago for a short time. The olds was thrown into almost every GM manufacturer and it was a pos. I have one that runs, it doesn't get anywhere near 20 mpg. The only way to get 180+ hp with any reasonable price is to advance the timing so much you have an engine that's ready to blow itself up. You can't put power behind it, you would be better off running a v6 than that engine. The chevy 307 block is a very good engine if you want to run in the smaller engine brackets at a drag - it's one of the best.

Yours must not be tuned right. When I was using my Olds 307 I got between 18-21 mpg. That wasnt babying it either, it was way to slow for me to keep it in low rpms while accelerating.

the computer will not adjust for a different engine. it's way too old for that. but it will have a PROM that can be replaced with a properly programmed one.

Here is a website, http://www.robertpowersmotorsports....work if the engine has very minor mods on it.

please don't crush it. any number of people here in the rust belt would give their right nut for it. list it on ebay with no reserve, pick up only.

I did that with my '78 Cutlass... Perfect body, factory black and gold car.

It sold for $78 and my Ebay fees were $58

I'm going to keep the car....

I've been given some good advice here and I'm going to follow it.

I've got a TH350 getting rebuilt for it then I'm going to give it a few bolt ons, Hi- Intake, headers, and a cowl induction hood to get some fresh air to it. Then I'm going to put a 75 shot of Nitrous on it

I figure I can run it that way for a year then build a SBO for it.
