Be careful on the intake gaskets. If the Fel-pro gaskets you get are plastic take two steps back and run away fast. Go over to the closest GM Stealership and get the metal intake gaskets. Part of the issue was that it was a rubber/plastic composite gasket that did not hold up due to the heat and stress. GM made a metal/rubber gasket which is so much better. I have had one on my 2005 LeSabre for years and it is great.

If you get a plastic/rubber gasket set, you are going to be replacing them again down the road.

Good luck with the car

That's too bad you had to sell your Monte, as for me I woulda sold the 2000 and kept the other. At least you know a car guy got your Monte and he will appreciate it, I'm with you on the dubs also. Reminds me of my 1979..Man that car was badass, my pops made me get rid of it for a similar reason. I hated seeing it drive away that's for sure. My pops passed since then and now I have my current '84 and it's a tribute to him and my "mid life" crisis 🙂

Well if i lived in Florida and it never snowed then for sure i would have kept it ! But i needed a car to drive for school in the winter so i bought the 2000. My original plan was to store the 86 which i was doing but parents wanted it gone and i knew i would have the TLC to put into it so regretfully i had to sell it. Cant complain with this one though, 9.3l for every 100km! Im loving it 😀 I havent replaced the gaskets yet but im pretty sure they are the metal ones. Ill keep you guys updated 🙂

Fel-Pro has the option of the revised steel gaskets as well, and i'm sure they still cost less than GM's.

Hey guys! Bit of an Update here of what ive done to the car so far! First thing i did was replace both lower control arms, balljoints, tie rod ends, and 4 calipers all around. After that was done i drove the car around for a few months and finally got the chance to redo the intake gaskets. Took me 2 days to do it but it was my first time ive ever done something like this and made sure to take my time. Gaskets were replaced with the metal ones, dorman intake gasket used, and i used dormans new aluminum coolant elbows! 🙂 Car runs like a dream now. Next thing to do mechanically is just the fuel level sensor and my rad is leaking a bit. Other than that the car has been good to me! Threw a small system in it (10'Sub and amp). Ive been looking everyday to see if a new Gbody came up. Found one that looked exactly like mine http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehicle ... Z445310913. First i thought this was mine and was going to buy it back but after reading i found out it wasnt. I wanted to buy this but talking to the guy more, he said a brake line is leaking, the dash is cracked, the wheel well chrome was taken off 11 years ago when it was repainted because the fenders were rusting. I think a resonable price for this car could be between 600-800$. Just looking at that rust it seems pretty bad. Also the gauge package confused me? I didnt know they put a whole gauge setup in these cars? I thought they only did that with the SS?
